The Chordwainers at the next Market Sunday 25 Nov

GREAT NEWS
The Chordwainers will be sharing their Journey into Acoustic Leather Music at the Lilydale Village Market Sunday 25 November 10-10.30am to launch their new CDs. This amasing group will visit the Market before their concert at Clarendon- same day from 2pm .

More info about their work and CDs
Master sculptor, Garry Greenwood (1943-2005) left a legacy of remarkable leather instruments. Since the mid-1990s, Tasmanian musicians, The Chordwainers have been privileged to explore their acoustic possibilities, drawing inspiration from the unique island we live on. In this 3-disc set we share from our musical journey: dances and songs influenced by music we love from around the world, contemplations in resonant sound, and experiments in spontaneous interaction.
What’s special about these CDs?
They share a journey we’ve been on for over 10 years. We’ve taken some new directions and gone further in old ones. Fresh from our successful National Folk Festival debut earlier this year, we set about recording. Each of the 3 CDs in this package expresses a different aspect of our musical travels, nearly 2 hours of music in total.
The Dance disc includes jazzy tunes and pieces drawing from our love of world music. Characterised by playful melodies, upbeat rhythms and exotic sounds these are songs that will get your foot tapping and your soul longing for travel.
Unwind continues our world journey and grounds it in the Tasmanian environment. Chill out, meditate or practice Tai Chi, this one will appeal to the contemplative spirit in us all.  Featuring Lila’s 18 strings kora and Garry’s personal 21 strings Tasmanian Mountain Harp – these are truly some magical sounds.
The Improvise disc contains tracks that were improvised on the spot in the evocative surrounds of one of Tasmania’s iconic small churches - St. Mary’s Anglican Church in Hagley.  Improvise captures the fun we had intermingling leather instrument sounds in this exquisite acoustic environment.
This concert is also special because leather music instigator and Chordwainer founder, Karlin Love, is going overseas for a year. An event not to be missed as these instruments (and their players) won’t be back together again until 2014.
